Common questions

Softball questions

  • Slowpitch versus fastpitch bats — interchangeable?

No. Slowpitch bats are weighted for end-loaded swings against a 6 to 12 foot arc pitch. Fastpitch bats are balanced for compact swings against rise-ball pitching. The barrel construction and certifications differ. Each bat PDP lists the discipline plus the league stamp (ASA/USA Softball, USSSA, NSA, ISA, ISF) so you match before checkout.

  • What glove size do I need by position?

Infield gloves run 11.5 to 12.5 inches with shallow pockets for fast transfer. Outfield gloves run 12.5 to 13.5 inches with deep pockets to hold the ball through a sliding catch. Pitchers usually pick a closed-web 12 to 12.5 inch glove to hide grip. Catcher's mitts are sized differently in inches around the circumference. Each glove PDP lists size, web style, and recommended position.

  • Bat composite versus alloy — which lasts longer?

Alloy bats are ready out of the wrapper, take cold weather without cracking, and last multiple seasons. Composite bats need 150 to 200 hits to break in but offer larger sweet spots and better trampoline once broken in. Cold-weather use shortens composite life. Most year-round players own one of each.
